Do's and Don'ts of Job Placement

Do's and Don'ts of Job Placement

Learning never ends! It is true that knowledge is power but Presentation is the main key to market any product and this statement also applies to your resume. Good marks does not guarantee a good job, especially in today’s competitive scenario.

However, there are certain things that you can keep control of to ensure the best possible outcome for your own favor. To maximize your chances of getting a good offer or placement thereafter, you need to put your best foot forward. Therefore, here is a list of few ‘do’s and don’ts’ that you must follow to match the best positive result with your anticipation.

DO'S

Reach on Time - Be on time for the job interview. Punctuality and time management is essential. Keep time in hand, as you go for an interview. It shows how keen you are and will save you from leaving a bad impression on others.
Follow a Dress Code - Avoid jeans, t-shirts, skirts, trainers or any other revealing clothes. Put on a professional attire and practice good hygiene to look impressive.
Do Proper Research - It is important that you have some awareness of the company you are applying for. Review the website of the company. You can also ask questions to the interviewer for a proper conversation from the both the sides.
Check Your Mails Frequently - Certain companies function on a fast mode and totally rely on mails for any communication. As there is a high competition, missing out an email from any company or recruitment agency can mean that you have missed what could have been a perfect opportunity for you.
Carry Updated Resumes and Certificates - Always carry more than one copy of resumes, certificates and keep other necessary documents ready. Do a thorough checking of spellings on you resume and keep them updated.
Be Respectful - Thank and shake hands firmly with the interviewer for taking time out to meet you. Keep a positive and confident, friendly and a respectable attitude towards the interviewer. Use only courteous and polite language and behave with decorum.
Sit When You Are Asked - Wait until the interviewer asks you to sit down. If he continues to converse without saying so, you can always ask gently for a permission for the same.
Follow a Good Non-Verbal Behavior - Not only what you speak but the tone of your voice, body language and mannerisms can speak a lot about how well you know the business etiquette.
Speak True Details - Be honest and use clear and concise language. Speak only what is required and not something irrelevant.

DONT'S

Turning Up Too Late or Too Early- Turning up late is never an option so forget about that. Even reaching much before time will not endear you to any employer.
Dress Inappropriately - No matter how the casual dressing up can be the current trend, but for a job interview it is of utmost priority that you choose a professional attire to leave a good impression on others.
Don't Be Clueless- No matter how well your CV speaks of you, if you are clueless about your job requirements or the company you are applying for, your interview will surely go disastrous.
Talk Too Soon About Salary- Unless an offer or a question is put on the table it is not recommended that you initiate the discussion of money or future working and other holiday arrangements. Remember, a job interview is not the time to talk about money.
Never Trash a Previous Employer- Using foul and inappropriate language is not acceptable in the workplace, so at an interview it will never win you any accolades.
Avoid Fidgeting- Whether you are fidgeting with unnecessary props, or your nails, or hair or simply chewing gum or whatever- they do not belong to the interview table.
Do Not Fail with a Proper Body Language - Not just your verbal communication skills matter in an interview, but a proper body language expresses a lot. Be enthusiastic in your approach but do not talk much than what is necessary. Eye contact, smiling, not slouching, and not keeping your arms crossed over your chest are some of the practices you must learn.
Unclear Answer and Rambling- Your answers must be crisp and proper. Avoid stammering or stuttering unless it is a serious medical condition. Do not be too personal in an interview and start with sob stories or any other irrelevant conversation.
Keep Your Mobile Phone Turned Off - It is best that you switch off your phone or turn it silent before you enter for the interview.
